Primary HUVEC cells were cultured up untill passage 3, isolated and then FACS-sorted by CD34 and divided in CD34-positive and CD34-negative fractions.

Primary HUVECs were isolated from umbilical veins by collagenase digestion and routinely grown in M199 basal medium supplemented with 10% human serum, 10% fetal bovine serum and 1% penicillin-streptomycin-glutamine.
