Treatment protocol The animal homozygous for MC4R D298 was fed ad libitum for 3-days.
Growth protocol The pigs were fed ad libitum and contained at the Lauren Christian swine facility of Iowa State University. The animal was genotyped for MC4R variant and pigs with specific genotypes were transferred to a clean animal facility for experiment.
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol Total RNA was isolated from tissues by using the RNeasy Midi kit with on-column RNase-free DNase digestion (Qiagen, Valencia, CA) based on the manufacturer's protocol.
Label biotin
Label protocol cRNA were prepared by the GeneChip One-Cycle target labeling kit according to the standard Affymetrix protocol from total RNA (Expression Analysis Technical Manual, 2001, Affymetrix)
 
Hybridization protocol Following fragmentation, cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on GeneChip Porcine Genome Array . GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450.
Scan protocol GeneChips were scanned using the Affymetrix GeneChip Scanner 3000.
Description 6 months old Yorkshire gilts from a genetic line with high feed efficiency, obtained by selecting for low residual feed intake were used.
Data processing Values are probe level measures that were summarized into probe set level expression measures using the "affy" packagein R according to the MAS 5.0 algorithm
