Treatment protocol Pig retina samples were collected after sacrifice and immediately stored in liquid nitrogen tank until RNA extraction.
Growth protocol Three-day-old male domestic piglets (Sus scrofa, Landrace×Large White cross) were purchased from a commercial piggery in Xiamen City, China and randomly placed in the 2 groups. All animals were kept in the temperature-controlled environment with a 12-h light (08:00~20:00) and a 12-h dark (20:00~08:00) cycle. The home pens contained a “nest” (a rubber tire covered with a clean towel), a heat lamp over the nest and an identical woody toy hang in the home pen. All facilities (including home pens and behavior room) were monitored for 24-h. The feeding time was fixed as 8:00, 13:00, 18:00, 22:30, with an extra 50mL milk/pig supplied at the last feeding.
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol The extraction of total RNA was performed using Agencourt RNAdvance tissue kit according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Label Biotin
Label protocol Biotinylated cRNA were prepared according to the standard Affymetrix protocol from 6 ug total RNA (Expression Analysis Technical Manual, 2001, Affymetrix).
 
Hybridization protocol Following fragmentation, 10 ug of cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45˚C on Affymetrix Rat Genome 230 2.0 Array. GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450.
Scan protocol GeneChips were scanned using the GeneArray Scanner G3000 7G system.

Data processing The data were analyzed with Expression console software using Robust Multichip Average(RMA) as normalization method.
