Aspergillus flavus

Filamentous fungus that produces aflatoxin and causes aspergillosis

Lineage: Eukaryota[8697]; Fungi[3102]; Dikarya[2880]; Ascomycota[2193]; Pezizomycotina[1650]; Eurotiomycetes[325]; Eurotiomycetidae[274]; Eurotiales[227]; Aspergillaceae[197]; Aspergillus[126]; Aspergillus subgen. Circumdati[10]; Aspergillus flavus[1]
The haploid filamentous fungus Aspergillus flavus causes approximately 30% of the cases of aspergillosis, a serious human disease. It also produces the highly carcinogenic mycotoxin aflatoxin. Infestations of grains by this fungus results in large agricultural and economic losses. The Aspergillus flavus genome has an estimated size of 36 Mb, organized in 8 chromosomes.
