Quickstart: orthologs

Use the NCBI datasets ortholog page
  1. Go to the NCBI Search page . Enter a gene symbol with or without a taxonomic name in the search box, such as a2m, then click Search.
  2. Click the Orthologs button to go to the NCBI ortholog page.
  3. Download an NCBI Datasets Gene Data Package containing gene metadata, transcript and protein sequences by:
    1. Select one or more genes using the checkboxes.
    2. Click the Download button.
    3. (Optional) Customize the data package by changing the options in the dialog.
    4. Click the Download button in the dialog.
  4. Align proteins by:
    1. Select all or a subset of genes using the checkboxes.
    2. Click the Protein alignment button.
    3. (Optional) Customize the alignment by changing the options in the dialog.
    4. Click the Align button in the dialog.
  5. To see all RefSeq transcripts and proteins for a gene, click the arrow at the top-right corner of the gene row.
  6. Click the Literature tab to see related publications.
  7. (Optional) Use the taxonomy tree to filter the genes.
