Quickstart: genes

Use the NCBI Datasets gene page
  1. Go to the NCBI Datasets gene page .

  2. Under Enter identifiers manually, click Get started.

  3. Add genes by:

    • NCBI GeneID(s): Select Gene ID as the identifier type. Type the gene ID(s), such as 2778,4519.
    • gene symbol(s): Select Gene Symbol as the identifier type. Type organism name, followed by the gene symbol(s), such as Human and GNAS,MT-CYB.
    • transcript or protein accession(s): Select Accession as the identifier type. Type the accession(s), such as NM_016592.5,NP_002219.1.

    Click Add.

  4. Customize the table columns using the Select Columns dialog.

  5. Download gene data by:

    1. Select genes using the checkboxes.
    2. Click the Download button. Two options are available:
      • Select Download table to download the gene information as shown on the page:
        1. (Optional) Change the file format.
        2. (Optional) Name your file.
      • Select Download dataset to download a NCBI Datasets Gene Data Package containing gene metadata, transcript and protein sequences:
        1. (Optional) Customize the data package by changing the options selected in the dialog.
        2. (Optional) Name your file.
    3. Click the Download button in the dialog.
  6. Click on the Edit button to Add genes, Remove genes, or Start over.

  7. To see information about the transcripts, click on Switch to transcript view above the table.
