    Description
    Transcript Variant: This variant (2) differs at the 5' end compared to variant 1. The longest ORF of the resulting transcript would encode a protein with a shorter N-terminus compared to the protein encoded by variant 1. However, there is an upstream ORF (uORF) in variant 2 that overlaps the translational start site of the longest ORF. The uORF has a strong Kozak signal and presumably prevents translation of the long ORF. Therefore, the transcript is a candidate for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and is likely not protein-coding.
