Summary: This locus represents naturally occurring read-through transcription between the neighboring choline kinase beta (Chkb) and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1b, muscle (Cpt1b) genes. Similar read-through transcription has also been identified between the homologous genes in human and rat. These read-through transcripts are candidates for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and are unlikely to produce a protein; the functional significance of these transcripts has yet to be determined.
