Various central nervous system regions of adult inbred strain

Analysis of 51 regions with distinct functions in the central nervous system (CNS) microdissected from 7 to 8 week-old Balb/c males. Each region sampled every 4 h for 24 h then pooled. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms underlying distinct functional regions in the adult brain.

Expression profile of adult mouse 51 CNS regions

(Submitter supplied) The adult mammalian brain is composed of distinct regions that have specialized roles. To dissect molecularly this complex structure, we conducted a project, named the BrainStars (B*) project, in which we sampled ~50 small brain regions, including sensory centers and centers for motion, time, memory, fear, and feeding. To avoid confusion from temporal differences in gene expression, we sampled each region every 4 hours for 24 hours, and pooled the sample sets for DNA-microarray assays. more...

Temporal profiling and network analysis of rhythmic gene expression and novel functional gene annotation in the water flea, Daphnia pulex

(Submitter supplied) We analyzed genome-wide temporal transcriptional patterns from Daphnia pulex collected over a 48 hr time period using a cosine-fitting algorithm. Additionally, using a comprehensive network modeling and analysis approach, we go beyond the standard statistical analyses of the gene expression data. By doing so, we identified novel co-regulated rhythmic genes that have similar network topological as well as functional annotations as rhythmic genes identified by the statistical analyses but that cannot be identified by cosine-fitting alone. more...

whole brains from nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit mutant mice and littermate controls

(Submitter supplied) Studies using mice with beta4 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunit deficiency (beta4-/- mice) helped reveal the roles of this subunit in bradycardiac response to vagal stimulation, nicotine-induced seizure activity and anxiety. In order to identify genes that might be related to beta4-containing nAChRs activity, we compared the mRNA expression profiles of brains from beta4-/- and wild-type mice using Affymetrix U74Avr2 microarray. more...

Beta-4 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit deficiency effect on the brain

Analysis of brains of beta-4 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunit null mutants. nAChRs are pentameric ion channels. Results provide insight into the molecular basis of the beta-4 subunit's role in the bradycardic response to vagal stimulation, nicotine-induced seizure, and anxiety.

Transcriptomic analyis of the response of porcine PBMC to stimulation with concanavalin A

(Submitter supplied) One of the top priorities of the swine industry worldwide is to decrease the susceptibility of its animals to infectious diseases. There is therefore now an increased focus on the production of more “robust” animals, which have lower susceptibility to a broad range of infectious diseases. One general measure of immune competence is the proliferative response of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) to mitogenic stimulation. more...

Chronic Intermittent Ethanol by vapor chamber gene expression time-course in basal nucleus of the stria terminalis [BNST]

(Submitter supplied) Lasting behavioral and physiological changes such as abusive consumption, dependence, and withdrawal are characteristic features of alcohol use disorders (AUD). Mechanistically, persistent changes in gene expression are hypothesized to contribute to these brain adaptations leading to ethanol toxicity and abuse. Here we employed repeated chronic intermittent ethanol (CIE) exposure by vapor chamber as a mouse model to simulate the cycles of ethanol exposure and withdrawal commonly seen with AUD. more...

Gene expression analysis of the developing cortex

(Submitter supplied) The mammalian neocortex develops layer organizations with regional differences represented by expression of multiple genes at embryonic stages. These genes could play important roles in the formation of areal cyto-architecture, yet, the number of genes identified so far is not sufficient to explain such intricate processes. Here we collected five regions; the medial, dorsal, lateral, rostral, and occipital, from the dissected E16.5 mouse cerebral cortex and performed extensive gene expression analysis using the Affymetrix U74Av2 array. more...
