Type II activated macrophage

Analysis of type II activated macrophages (Mphi) generated by stimulation with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in the presence of IgG immune complexes. Type II activated Mphi produce high levels of IL-10 and low levels of IL-12 relative to classically activated Mphi stimulated with LPS alone.

Comparison between classically activated and type II activated macrophages to identify novel markers

(Submitter supplied) The purpose of this study is to identify novel markers for the type II activated macrophage, which is generated by classical stimulation in the presence if IgG immune complexes. (Submitter supplied) Aged humans and rodents are susceptible to infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria as a result of an inability to make antibodies to capsular polysaccharides. This is partly a result of decreased production of proinflammatory cytokines and increased production of interleukin (IL)-10 by macrophages (Mphi) from aged mice.
