Transcriptome analysis revealed potential mechanisms of channel catfish growth advantage over blue catfish in tank culture environment

(Submitter supplied) Channel catfish and blue catfish represent two economically important freshwater aquaculture species in the United States. Our study aims to investigate the gene expression differences between these two catfish species by high-throughput RNA sequencing to understand their associated phenotypic differences in growth and disease resistant. Our transcriptomic analyses provide some insights into gene function differences between the two species and the molecular basis of channel catfish growth advantage in the tank culture environment.

Environmental dependent heterosis and transgressive gene expression in reciprocal hybrids between the channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus and the blue catfish Ictalurus furcatus

Nimblegen Catfish 28K Oligo Microarray

(Submitter supplied) This platform builds upon a previous 19K channel catfish microarray design (GPL2814). Newly sequenced immune and miscellaneous transcripts from channel catfish were added bringing the number of sequences from that species to 21,359.
